Why should you apply?
The [institution] offers a range of scholarships and bursaries for Australian citizens and permanent residents who wish to undertake postgraduate research study. In 2016, [institution] provided $1.9 million in scholarships and fee reductions to support over 400 research students. These scholarships are awarded based on academic merit with an additional component of financial need*. … Those applicants who are successful will only be required to repay their scholarship if they earn over a certain amount each year. If your application is unsuccessful, you will not be required to repay any component of your scholarship or related student payments provided by [institution]. What are scholarships and grants?
A scholarship is money that does not have to be paid back. You can use it however you like, whether that’s funding your next education milestone or helping you pay off debt. A grant, on the other hand, has conditions attached and may involve a repayment requirement. These awards are usually worth between $500 and $3,000 and cover specific costs such as study materials or childcare. Both grants and scholarships are provided by schools, state governments or charities.

Many students believe they don’t have time to apply for scholarship opportunities, but with a little extra planning, it can be an easy part of your study routine. There are many types of scholarships available that are suited for different needs. When should you apply?
The scholarship application period runs from May 30th through June 30th. You can apply anytime during that window. If you don’t hear back from us by July 15th, it means you didn’t get selected for any scholarships and we recommend looking into other sources of funding like fellowships, research assistantships or teaching assistantships to help cover your expenses. How can you win a scholarship?
There are many different types of scholarships available to prospective students, including international scholarships and national scholarships. The most common method of scholarship application is through a form that you need to fill out with your personal information and academic achievements. In some cases, you might also be required to write an essay explaining why you deserve financial assistance or any other special requirements set by your chosen university. How do I apply?
The scholarship application process is quite simple. All you need to do is submit an online application form, along with any requested supporting documentation by October 31 (if applying from within Australia) or February 29 (if applying from overseas). We highly recommend that you apply early as some scholarships require additional information and in some cases interview panels will meet prior to these dates. Scholarships must be applied for each year of your candidature, so don’t delay! While it can take time to complete an application, it does not have to cost you a lot of money. It can actually save you money if you use your pre-paid mobile or home phone card or make calls on weekends when rates are cheaper. The earlier you start, the sooner your hard work will pay off!
Do I need to be enrolled in a full degree program?
No. Most of our scholarship recipients are enrolled in master’s or doctoral programs, but we do offer scholarships for students studying part-time as well. If you’re still deciding whether a full degree program is right for you, these scholarships can be applied toward any coursework or training (online or on-campus) that helps you achieve your goals. It doesn’t matter if you have decided on a focus or specialty yet—our scholarships are available to those studying anything from quantum physics to nutrition science.
